E-Macan made in Saxony: launch of electromobility at the Leipzig site

Porsche celebrated the official launch of electric mobility at its Saxon production site in Leipzig last week. In recent years, the sports car manufacturer has invested around 600 million euros in the expansion of the plant in order to be able to produce the electric Macan. This has included the construction of a new body shop. Production of the new Macan is currently in the ramp-up phase. The plant is designed for maximum flexibility in the future: Petrol, hybrid and fully electric vehicles will run on one production line.

The electric Macan rolls off the production line in Leipzig with a carbon-neutral balance sheet. “We are consistently pursuing the ‘smart, lean and green’ approach in Porsche production at all our sites. This means that our vision is an intelligently networked factory whose impact on the environment is as low as possible,” says Porsche Board Member for Production Albrecht Reimold. “At Porsche, we are also working towards a carbon-neutral value chain for newly produced vehicles in 2030.” The Leipzig plant has received several awards for its sustainable approach, including the “Lean and Green Management Award” in 2021. The “Factory of the Year” award in 2023 also confirms that the Porsche site in Saxony has a stringent approach to sustainability.
