Cellcentric, a joint venture between Daimler Truck AG and the Volvo Group, is opening a pilot production facility for fuel cell systems at the Esslingen-Pliensauvorstadt site. By the end of the decade, solutions for long-haul trucks powered by fuel cell systems are to be developed here, which are intended to advance the sustainable mobility transition in heavy goods and freight transportation as a key technology. The aim of cellcentric is to develop, build and distribute drive solutions in large-scale production in Baden-Württemberg that achieve the best possible total cost of ownership (TCO) in the highly competitive transportation industry. In addition, cellcentric plans to cover the entire ecosystem surrounding fuel cell systems – from the product to maintenance and recycling at the end of the life cycle.
