Sales of electric cars are booming in Norway. In August, almost all newly registered cars were electric – the proportion was 94.3 percent, according to the country’s transport authority (OfV). This is due to the high tax breaks, which subsidize the price of an electric car down to that of a combustion car. In addition, the e-infrastructure in Norway is generally better developed. From 2025, Norway only wants to register zero-emission new cars – ten years earlier than the EU.

A total of 10,480 electric cars were purchased in August. This brings the total number since the beginning of the year to 68,435. As the OFV statistics show, Tesla’s Model Y in particular was sold a lot. Its market share is 18.8 percent. OFV Director Oyvind Solberg Thorsen proudly explains: “If this trend continues, we will soon be on the way to achieving our goal of 100 percent zero-emission cars by 2025.”
