Kia has announced details of the new, purely electrically powered EV3 compact SUV, which is technologically based on the larger Kia EV9 electric SUV and is due to be launched on the German market at the end of the year. The EV3 is 4.30 meters long, 1.85 meters wide, 1.56 meters high and has a wheelbase of 2.68 meters. The front-wheel drive electric vehicle has an electric drive system based on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) and uses the fourth generation of Kia battery technology. The standard model is equipped with a 58.3 kWh battery, while the long-distance version has an 81.4 kWh battery and, according to current calculations, will have a combined range of up to 600 kilometers. Both drive variants have a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor with 283 Nm of torque, accelerate to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 170 kilometers per hour.
With the EV3, Kia is the first automotive brand to introduce the “Vehicle-to-Load” function (V2L) in the electric compact SUV segment. This allows the Stromer to be used as a 220-volt power bank to supply external devices such as e-bikes, an electric barbecue, a hairdryer or similar with electricity. Another practical feature is the digital car key (Digital Key 2.0), which allows a smartphone or smartwatch to be used as a vehicle key, eliminating the need to carry a physical key.
