Porsche in China: Formula E debut in Shanghai

Formula E is returning to China: on May 25 and 26, the electric world championship will hold two races in the economic metropolis of Shanghai for the first time. The first ever Formula E race was held at the Beijing Olympic Park in 2014. Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa will compete for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. Porsche, the leader in the manufacturers’ standings, is celebrating its first Formula E appearance in China, the company’s second-largest single market, with the 99X Electric. The electric car from Weissach has won four races so far this season, three for the works team and one for the Andretti Formula E customer team – more than any other car in the field. Portuguese driver da Costa travels to Shanghai with a tailwind: he won the second race at Porsche’s home round in Berlin. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team collected many valuable championship points in the capital with both drivers (55 in total). The Andretti team will travel to Shanghai with a pole position from Berlin.

Porsche will contest its fifth Formel-E-Saison in 2023/2024. In addition to the factory-owned TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, the US customer team Andretti Formula E will compete with the Porsche 99X Electric. The concept of the innovative electric racing car was developed at the Weissach site, which has a CO2-neutral balance sheet. With its involvement in the world championship, Porsche is demonstrating its ambition to play a leading role among traditional car manufacturers in the areas of electrification, sustainability and technology. In Formula E, the brand is gaining valuable insights for its electric production sports cars.
