From Volkswagen to MG: Jozef Kabaň new chief designer of MG parent company SAIC Motor

Jozef Kabaň will be responsible for the design language of MG models in the future. The former chief designer of renowned automotive brands such as Audi, Škoda, BMW, Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen has been appointed Vice President of SAIC Motor’s Global Design Center. The 51-year-old Slovakian began his career as a designer at Volkswagen and then moved to Audi, where he became Head of Exterior Design in 2007. From 2008, he took on a similar role at Škoda and, as the designer in charge, initiated the change in the brand’s current design language. In 2017, he moved to BMW, where he became Head of Design at the Rolls-Royce subsidiary in 2019. In January 2020, Kabaň returned to Volkswagen, where he developed the design of the ID. Buzz, with which he succeeded in transforming the design of a long vehicle tradition into the age of electromobility. The MG brand is facing a similar transformation in its 100th anniversary year. By 2030, MG Motor’s parent company, SAIC Motor, plans to launch around 30 new, purely electric models of various brands – including numerous MGs such as the new MG3 Hybrid+, which will celebrate its sales launch at the end of May.
